Code of Conduct

Our commitment

Ireland’s Publishing Show is committed to providing a safe, welcoming, professional environment for everyone. We want attendees to feel comfortable, respected, and able to participate without fear of harassment, judgement, intimidation, or exclusion.

This Code of Conduct applies to everyone attending or participating in any capacity, including ticket-holders, speakers, panellists, vendors, sponsors, volunteers, staff, contractors, and venue partners.

Where this applies

This Code of Conduct applies to all Ireland’s Publishing Show spaces and activities, including the full conference programme, check-in, queues, shared venue areas, informal meet-ups, networking events, and any social events taking place within the event venue that are connected to the show. It also applies to official event communication channels and groups used for the event.

The standard we expect

  • Treat everyone with respect, courtesy, and professionalism.

  • Be mindful that tone can be hard to read in a large group.

  • Keep the environment welcoming and inclusive for people of all genders and gender identities, backgrounds, beliefs, and lived experiences.

  • Respect boundaries. If someone asks you to stop, stop immediately.

  • Be considerate with humour and banter. Intent does not cancel impact.

  • Follow directions from Ireland’s Publishing Show organisers, volunteers, venue staff, and security, especially where safety or de-escalation is involved.

  • Respect privacy. Do not share private information about others without clear permission.

What is not acceptable

  • We do not tolerate behaviour that undermines safety, dignity, or participation. This includes conduct that targets, marginalises, intimidates, pressures, or excludes others, whether in person or through event channels. This includes behaviour linked to a person’s gender or gender identity, sexuality, religion, political views, personal opinions, disability, age, race, ethnicity, or any other personal characteristic.

  • You are responsible for the impact of your behaviour, not only your intent.

  • Keeping discussion comfortable

  • This is not the place for heated debates or pushing discussions onto others about politics, religion, gender identity, sexuality, or deeply personal topics. If someone does not want to engage, respect that immediately. If in doubt, choose the kinder option.

Reporting a concern

  • If you experience or witness a concern, please report it. You do not need “proof” to raise a concern.

  • Reports must include the reporter’s name and contact details. We do not accept anonymous complaints, as we need to be able to verify concerns and follow up appropriately.

  • We will handle reports as confidentially as possible and will share information only with those who need to know to respond appropriately. In some situations, details may need to be shared to allow a fair review.

  • How to report

  • Use the official QR code displayed around the venue, or message the dedicated event WhatsApp number listed on venue signage, or speak to a member of the Indie Network team at check-in.

  • If urgent or immediate safety is at risk, contact venue security or emergency services first, then notify us as soon as possible.

What your report should include

Your name and a contact number

  • Where you are right now if you need support

  • What happened and where it happened

  • When it happened

  • The name or description of the person involved

  • Names of any witnesses if known

  • What outcome you need right now, for example a staff member to attend, an escort to a quieter space, or immediate intervention

How we handle reports

Reports are reviewed by the Ireland’s Publishing Show Conduct Committee. We will take concerns seriously, prioritise safety and wellbeing, gather information as appropriate, and decide actions based on what is needed to protect attendees and the event environment. We may take immediate action before a full review where safety requires it.

Consequences

If this Code of Conduct is not followed, action may be taken. This may include a private conversation and instruction to stop, a formal warning, conditions placed on attendance, increased monitoring, removal from a session or space, or removal of your conference badge.

If a conference badge is removed, the attendee must leave immediately, will not be permitted to attend any further part of the event, and will not receive a refund.

Serious issues may result in exclusion from future Indie Network events, including Ireland’s Publishing Show 2027, and may be escalated to venue security or relevant authorities where appropriate.

Acknowledgement required for entry

All attendees must acknowledge this Code of Conduct via the official form. Attendees who have not acknowledged it may be required to sign acknowledgement at check-in. If an attendee refuses to acknowledge and agree to abide by this Code of Conduct, entry will be refused.

Legal note

This Code of Conduct is a community safety policy that sets expectations for behaviour at our events and outlines how we respond to concerns. It does not replace venue rules or applicable laws. Ireland’s Publishing Show reserves the right to take reasonable steps to maintain a safe event environment.
